Director of Mental Health and Quality

Chris joined AFG in 2019 and is a registered mental health nurse. He holds an Executive MBA in Health Services Management and has held several senior management roles within the health and social care sector.

Chris is focused on providing specialist support and rehabilitation services for people with challenging and complex needs through high quality, person-centred care. He is particularly excited by AFG’s digital journey so that people can use technology to help manage their condition and support needs.

Head of Operations for Mental Health

Emma has been with AFG for over 10 years, where she has held several different clinical roles. Currently Emma is Head of Operations, overseeing all operational aspects both internally and externally for the Group.

She is a Registered Mental Health Nurse and holds a BSc in psychosocial interventions, which she gained back in 2012. Emma is passionate about creating the right pathway for people to be able to truly control their own lives.

Mental Health Quality Improvement Manager

Karen has many years’ experience of working across Acute Adult Mental Health, Rehabilitation and Secure Services. She has worked for AFG for many years and her current role as Mental Health Quality Improvement Manager focuses on the quality of care and support across our hospital and community settings.

Karen holds a BSc in Psychosocial Management of Psychosis and a MSc in family and individual CBT for Psychosis. She is particularly focussed on ensuring the highest level of quality and care is received across all AFG’s settings.

Our History

Created in 1992, Alternative Futures Group was established to provide services in community settings for people with complex needs.

We operate as a Trading Charity and our income comes solely from locally commissioned services, either through the Local Authorities, a Clinical Commissioning group or by a direct payment from someone receiving our support.

Over the years our services have developed further to include our mental health provision which helps people who have received a mental health diagnosis and need additional help and support to aid their recovery.

Through our people-centric approach, we now offer a range of different services including Treatment and Recovery Centre’s (TRCs), Enhanced Supported Living (ESL) and Outreach services, all designed to raise the benchmark in mental health services.

We are not afraid to be bold and forward thinking. Our digitally connected care and support demonstrates this perfectly, as does our decision to change our approach and create innovative Treatment and Recovery Centres. Our TRCs offer community rehabilitation and a recovery pathway which actively discharge people when they are ready from as little as three months through to two years at the very most.

Our local community offer also enables us to work closely with Commissioners, Clinical Commissioning Group’s, and Local Authorities to ensure we are at the heart of the local community, to aid the support and guidance we can give to you to ensure your pathway is a continued success.

Highly regarded in the mental health sector, our Enhanced Supported Living offer is designed to put your needs at the centre of your care, with packages of care tailored to your every need.

Fast forward to today and our passion and determination to deliver the highest-quality, people-centric services still motivate us and through our Social Value work we also recognise the importance of ‘giving back’ to those communities which have supported us over the years. We do this in several ways including volunteering, charitable fundraising or working in partnership with local companies to give something back.
